Houston Black Theatre Week presents What Lies Behind This Hospital Bed.

Loosely based on a true story in the early 2000's. The show is about a young woman who has been hit with a terminal illness who goes on a journey to find out how she got into the situation she’s in and how to navigate the rest of her life after diagnosis. Lyza goes through all 5 stages of an individual suffering from an Illness/ Grief :Denial, Anger, Bargaining, Depression/Guilt, and lastly, Acceptance.

Part of the 4th Annual Houston Black Theatre Week, November 8–15, 2026 at The DeLUXE Theater, this production embodies this year’s theme: Rooted in Culture, Alive Through Story.
